The Great Camouflage is a group show co-curated by Zhu Qiaorui and Kandis Williams that looks at contemporary artistic practices shaped by the legacies of revolutionary movements. Featuring works by 16 artists across film, textiles, performance, painting, and archival research, the exhibition examines how transnational Black radical thought has circulated materially and aesthetically, and how revolutionary gestures re-emerge through fragments of history. Taking its title from Suzanne Césaire’s writings, the exhibition uses the idea of “camouflage” to consider how beauty, images, and cultural forms can both obscure and reveal structures of power, with non-linear displays unfolding across multiple floors of the museum.
