The oldest outpost of a hyper-popular Shanghainese chain, drawing in crowds with, especially, xiaolongbao soup dumplings. The Fuchun school (which we made up) emphasizes the flavor of the pork, at the expense of basically everything else: these are ripe, flavorsome, filling dumplings, served piping hot and with plenty of dough pinched at the top. They serve six at a time instead of the usual eight for a reason: they're intense. Most of the other venues are in malls, but this one sports a vintage Shanghai look, which was invented from scratch when the place was refurbished in 2018. Expect to wait at least a couple of minutes for a table at most times of the day and extra on weekends.
