Porto Matto is the homebase of chef-owner Roberto Bernasconi. Born in Puglia, southern Italy, he came to China in 2006 and after working for other people, eventually opened this, his own place, in 2014. Several years on, the place is both worn in and just plain worn out, with battered menus and a staff that seems more accustomed to slow evenings with a handful of customers. Food is passable but not spectacular, despite many of the pastas being made by Bernasconi himself. As a neighborhood restaurant, it's a comfortable option for those unconcerned with details, but it's far from being a destination.
