The newest and tallest -- as of August 2016 -- architectural statement in Shanghai, the Shanghai Tower is the tallest building in China and the second tallest building in the entire world (only the Burj Khalifa in Dubai is taller). It houses the highest observation deck ever conceived by humans, which offers the highest views of Shanghai in a 360-degree pan-optic, doughnut-shaped room that looks out onto the entire city and beyond. Open 9am to 9pm daily, 160rmb gets you a ticket to ride the elevator up to the sky -- a must-visit for enthusiasts of full-throttle architecture and anyone looking to be above it all. More about it in our feature article.
