A hulking monstrosity crouched at the western terminus of the Nanjing Dong Lu shopping street, Shanghai No. 1 Department Store was, yup, the first major shopping mall built in Shanghai after the founding of the PRC. Roughly 7sqkm of retail space and food court, owned by Shanghai Bailian Group, it went through a hefty renewal process in 2018, but retains the historical facade.
