Originally established way back in the old Shanghai days but then discontinued due to unforeseen circumstances around the middle of the 19th century, the cricket club was re-established in 1994 by expatriates living in the city and has since grown to over 300 members.The Shanghai Cricket Club administers a three division league in which eight member clubs and associate teams play. The SCC also hosts an invitational sixes tournament and plays annual matches with Hong Kong Cricket Club, a revival of the original Interport matches from the turn of century. The club regularly hosts touring sides to Shanghai.
