Jia Jia Tangbao is an old-school Shanghainese soup dumpling shop, originally founded in 1986. They belong to the thin skin and mild flavor school that Din Tai Feng has made famous but are a lot more popular with Shanghainese, with more down-to-earth vibe. In recent years, they’ve expanded the chain and upgraded the store design from shabby hole-in-the-wall to something slightly more modern. Some locations are very popular with tourists from other countries in Asia, some are more local, but all are good. This location on Liyuan Lu is the OG.
