Yesterday evening, Mobike unveiled its new shared car in Beijing. It's not called Mocar, it's called DEV1. The vehicle, created by a year-old electric car company out of Guizhou called SITECH, is actually called the "DEV1 Shared Version," though it'll be available commercially, like a regular car, under the moniker "DEV1 Ultimate". There's no date on when we can expect them to start clogging up the streets of Shanghai. More pics and deets on these little red suckers after the jump.
Cute, ain't it? Like if a pug was a car in I, Robot. Trials were just recently completed on this, the first model to be put into production, but SITECH's already got new versions planned to be rolled out every year until 2021.
They're four-seaters, they've got LED front and back lights, 17-inch rims, a 7-inch full LCD dashboard and a 10-inch floating LCD touch instrument panel, they've got systems that can ping nearby charging stations to see if they're occupied. It's cloud-connected! It's got face-authentication! It's got remote control via your mobile! It'll do your taxes! Take care of baby! It will love you the way your father never did! They probably don't come with a bike on the roof but it'd be cool if they did.
The max cruise range on the commercial vehicle is 350km, and their charge speed will take 40 minutes to get you up to 200km. Mobike's "Sharing Edition" of the DEV1, meanwhile, looks the same appearance-wise (apart from that sick red paintjob) but it seems reasonable to guess they'll have a shorter range? 350km takes you to Nanjing. The cars will reportedly be made available through the Mobike APP.
This isn't the first time we've seen shared vehicles on the roads in Shanghai. We tested out the EVCARD last year. This will probably be a bigger deal than that.
