Huun-Huur-Tu China Tour 2019
Huun-Hur-Tu are a throat singing collective from Tuva, a Russian republic on the Mongolian border that has legendary status amongst throat-singing enthusiasts. Over the years they have perfected the art of a single vocalist producing two or three notes simultaneously by selectively amplifying naturally present harmonics in the voice box. Founded in 1992 by brothers Sasha and Savan Bapa and two other musicians, Kaigal-ool Khovalyg and Albert Kuvezin, the group's name translates as the rays of light that one can see out on the grasslands just after sunrise or just before sunset (how awesome is that). They combine traditional instruments with 20th century genres such as funk and electronica to produce a truly unique sound. Their 2019 China tour brings them to Shanghai on August 16 at Modernsky LAB.
