Editor's Description

Last updated: Jun 12, 2019
In late 2015, celebrity chef Alan Wong finally opened his spot on the second floor of the Portman, after years of anticipation. He's known for helping establish the Hawaii regional cuisine movement in the early 90s, and his flagship restaurant in Honolulu has received accolades since opening in 1995, including top listings in the early 2000s in Gourmet Magazine and Bon Appetit, and remains a staple of President Obama’s trips back to his home state. As of January 2016, his Shanghai station is still a work in progress. A meal will run at least 1500rmb for dinner for two, potentially much more, and many of the dishes underwhelm. As for the cuisine, expect lots of seafood, Haiwaiian pork, poke, expensive cocktails (120rmb) and a raw bar. Coconut sorbert is a highlight. Seems that you're paying for the name and the location. Note: they also tack on a 15% service charge.
