A staple of the live music scene in Shanghai, Live Bar hosts punk, metal, and rock shows featuring local and domestic Chinese touring bands. Although the venue is pretty far from the city center (around 35rmb in cab fare), Live Bar is consistent is hosting newer, younger Chinese bands on the weekends. Cover is usually in the 30rmb range and the beer is cheap at 10rmb per bottle. Keep an eye on the venue for larger bills too, with more than five bands on the bill playing "mini festival" type shows.

UNDERGROUND MUSIC GARAGE - A typical dark and dingy underground venue which has great atmosphere and cheap drinks, with a big screen for movies, F1, football, NBA every night from 8 pm. As well as alternative live music with great rock bands from many different places from 8 pm every Friday and Saturday night.Dalian rd station take the 1 exit!

I'm in love with this place. Underground in every sense of the word, with consistently good acts. And you can't beat 10rmb for a drink. Awesome.

Was there last weekend for the 2nd anniversary of Noishanghai. The performance was on afternoon but however, the location is great. Underground as much as possible with very nice and kindly people, staff as well as guests. I hope the government won't close this venue like the Yu Ying Tang Club, because in my opinion it is an essential part of the alternative scene in Shanghai. The authentic environment create a unique atmosphere like in a backyard club in Berlin or Moscow.
Who is not afraid of some basic service skills or interior furnishings will have a great (and cheap) time there for sure.
