Finally got around to visiting Ablsolute during a big name DJ, in this case ATB and feel of club was totally different than my first visit. Not a huge fan of his pop-trance genre but was a great time nonetheless and top marks for the club when it is full. It had the feel of a rave with the huge size, crowd, bare cement, unused warehouse feel. No washrooms on first or second fl, had to make your way to top fl at back and then for men's was very basic with no mirrors, no sinks just a water hose in a floor level sink - but this added to the outdoor party feel - going on a little trek. The 5 fl high ceiling was great, huge ball in the centre, speakers were capable (nice vibration dancing on the steel stairwells on either side of stage). The crowd was mix between foreign and very local locals, but everyone was having good time. Hope this place makes it.
After a month and half of hype in the local english / chinese rags, we had to check out this place, which also had a line up of top european djs. We went on a regular Saturday without a special event - the place was a big disappointment - huge venue with seating almost all way to the DJ and tiny dance floor, which unfortunately is typical in Shanghai, music was trending towards House / D & B but with too much cantopop beats to it, and poorly placed, and underwhelming speakers for a venue this size. It was about 1230 am and about 1/2 filled, with a lot of drinking games being played. Not meaning to be derogatory, but the term very Chinese came to mind. Maybe on a special event if they cleared the tables and chairs and cranked the sound system it may be ok, but my first impression was a disappointment.
Awesome club, one of the best I've been too for a long time. With so many clubs now in shanghai and many newly opened places, this one has managed to create one the the best clubbing atmosphere. You can dress up or dress down, kinda grungy as its in a warehouse, but also quite fresh. Good drinks prices to although a little slow.
