Whisk's main theme is chocolate, from the chip-studded, layered cake-looking outside wall to the blocks of it on the inside counter with the Whish name carved in to them. Chocolate is their thing. But Whisk also does a good trade for their non-chocolate menu of salads, sandwiches, risottos, pastas and the like. Comfy couches and a cafe/lounge vibe help.

I have been going to Whisk since if first opened some 2 years ago, and really don't understand where all the negative comments are coming from. The waiters might not be the sharpest tools in the box, but they are far from the worst that Shanghai has to offer.
A "restaurant" might be a bit of stretch term to define Whisk, but to call it a "cafe" doesn't do it justice. What Whisk does is offer simple oustanding authentic Italian dishes (I love that their Carbonara used the traditional egg yolk instead of the American variety with all that cream), that are both fresh and delicious without breaking the bank. Ideal if you looking for something substantial for lunch or something light for dinner, either on your own or with a group of friends.
As for the desserts, Chocolate doesn't get any better then this!!! I'm firmly addicted to the Chocolate Upside Down Cake and molten centre.

I went to Whisk with a group of friends for dinner.Wanted to go for pizza but was told that there was no pizza for the night. Rather disappointed. We ordered seafood risotto and pasta in the end. Risotto was pretty decent, seafood was fresh. But I personally think that the penne was undercooked.
Was 50% full after the salad and main course, wanting to try their dessert. Ordered a few of them, one of it was their hot favourite Chocolate Therapy. The dish presentation is lovely, it looks appetising too. But after the first try, I thought the cake was too dry, and the layers of cake fell apart soon after we set our forks on it.
Overall, I felt the main course was better than its desserts.

Hey, I'm new to Shanghai and Whisk is the 1st cafe that I;ve visited! So, this review is pretty long, do bear with it! :)
My friends and I have heard of this cafe and wanted to give it a try since we were near Huaihai Road. We entered the cafe and felt immediately at home. The interior looks like a modern living room with warm lightings. It helps that the staff was attentive to greet us and suggested a place for the 5 of us. A peek at the counter reveals Whisk's desserts and coffee bar. There were brownies and cookies stored in glass jars.
We went on to order caesar salad, seafood risotto, spicy seafood pasta, hot chocolate and chilled chocolate. The salad was crisp & fresh but the dressing was very little. In fact, I even forgot that I was supposed to have caesar salad! The seafood (clams, prawns, mussels) for the mains was very fresh, succulent & juicY! I find the penne very hard and it'll do better if there was more sauce. As for the hot chocolate, it was DELICIOUS; very thick and frothy. As for the iced version, it was a tad diluted after some time. Think we had drank too slowly!
A meal can never be complete with desserts! So we had their classic chocolate therapy and tiramisu. Tiramisu was good, the alcohol was distinctive. However, I was abit disappointed with the chocolate cake. The layers tasted too rough and everything crumbled apart. It was not dense and rich as I would like. Any recommendations for those rich moist cakes with a strong dark chocolate taste?

Deserts are awesome in here !
I dont know where to eat better deserts in Shanghai !
The management staff would only need to ask to their waiters/tresses to smile a little and that would be perfect.
Oh, and also .. you need to pay to drink water !
Hopefully the deserts were very good.

This place smells like urine, and the servers treat you like dog sh*t. Thus this place is just a cesspool....Chocolate anyone?
The manager lady was really nice at first, but then she turned out to be really rude . If you must eat here (bc your into that whole bathroom aroma/urinal cake smell) be sure to make a reservation.
If you choose to not make a reservation and decide to wait, make sure you don't talk to the manager lady. She'll tell you the wait is twenty minutes, if you go outside and come back in 20 minutes she'll yell at you with her arms in the air saying "what do you want me to do!?!? Everybody has finished their meal and dessert but no one has gotten the check".Then comes the dirty looks from the patrons she was just talking about. Then if you tell her that she since she is manager that she should try to solve the situation not make it worse, she'll just say "I'm the owner not the manager!"
I think a gorilla in a suit could do a better job than she does.
