Just back from lunch at Frankie's and we've been for dinner a couple of times. perhaps we just managed to choose well but each time its been great and we are fussy, rarely go back anywhere unless impressed first time but so far so good. also being italian background and brought up on very good italian food i am extra critical when we eat in italian restaurants. if the next time its not as good we may even give them another try as its been excellent thus far. Also the service is just right and their manager really good at his job.
Let's not beat around the bush. Frankie's Negronis are probably the best in town.
That said, if you're thinking about having dinner there, well, you might want to reconsider: In a previous comment about Frankie's, I did mention that this place was something of a joke. It's actually not. I had a thought. This place has strong ethics. Probably the same ethics that drive horse racing. Once you get that, you don't wonder any longer as per why the porcini became button mushrooms.
this restaurant look like old fashion hotel lobby the chair the are very hard ,and if you eat face the kitchen counter you will face the wall ,instate to see cooking action, this restaurant don,t have any hint of italy can be any coffee shop in hotel, and if you choose some main courses is better go to the best dining restaurant in shanghai
Went back to Frankie's yesterday with couple of friends had dinner we tried their risottos this time Pumpkin Crayfish and the mushroom one
OUTSTANDING
One of the best risottos i had in a while
We finished with thre great chocolate souffle
Thanks Frankie's !!!
i Disagree with the first two comments
I like the ambience very much great pizza and really good menu selection
Not too privy as well considering all the other italian restaurant in town
I agree with the above comment about the atmosphere (hotel lobby). Service was very friendly and professional, they served fresh bread with dips and give us more bread and dips without asking which was nice. I tried the Pizza, thin Italian pizza with not much on it but tasty cheesy, ham and mozzarella. That's real Pizza and they make it good. It's a nice touch that you get some sweets for free even though you don't order a dessert. Total bill for 2 with 2 beer each was around 400rmb which we thought was a bit too pricy for this restaurant, which in the end is just a nice Italian restaurant, but not more.
had a lunch today:
vast place; plenty of carpet and upholstery furniture = it looks like a hotel lobby; open kitchen is a plus; no lunch menu available... went for a-la-carte: first enjoyed the pompous intro boasting real-life Frankies jv with Pierre Marco White (a broke 3 stars chef) to create chain-frankies... then ordered and got served: co-luncher's carpaccio was ok, though arugula piled on top lacked dressing; pasta with lamb-bolognaise, eggplant & chocolate shavings sounded interesting but remained ordinary; my portion of 'vongole' for starter was huge, but broth lacked inspiration; followed a well-done pumpkin risotto, generously sized, drizzeled with balsamico = pretty satisfying. service was well mannered, but managed to ignore our request for second serving of their complimentary foccaccia, which we obviously liked.
big pellegrino is charged at 70+ a bottle. spent about 250 on two courses for two.
