Stalwart of the underground dance music scene, The Shelter provides a forum for both locally-based independent electronic artists and DJs, and new international alternative dance acts. A converted bomb shelter, the club is dark, sweaty, black, loud, and thumping. Virtually every single Shanghai independent promoter has a weekly or monthly party therein, and so music ranges on a given night from Reggae to IDM to Drum n Bass to Electro to Hip Hop. Drinks are cheap (for real cheap) and cover ranges from 10rmb to 50rmb depending on whose playing.

The freshest tunes in grime, garage, jackin' and LDN house. It's been a year since the start of Push and Pull, and to celebrate they're bringing Siesta down to the Shelter for a Thursday night UK garage rinse out. Residents Alta and Naaah on support. 20rmb to get in.
On Thu 24 at The Shelter

Special edition of the party by the cats behind the weekly Come Correct hip hop night. This is the official afterparty for the China B-Boy competition, so expect a lot of top-notch dancers from all over China. Music by T-Plus, Caution, D'Rocc, MC Jado, MC One Con, and the official DJ of the B-Boy competition DJ DSK playing a set with a live MPC routine. 40rmb to get in the door.
On Fri 25 at The Shelter

Sub-Culture continues a string of top-notch bookings with the return of Scratcha DVA to celebrate ten years of the Hyperdub label. His hard-to-categorize sound combines UK Funky, grime, and far-out, trippy shit that makes perfect sense on the dancefloor. Once the long-time host of Rinse FM's Grimey Breakfast show, he now hosts the monthly Hyperdub show with Kode9. Music by the man Scratcha himself, along with Downstate, Drunk Monk, and more guests, plus an installation by Kim Laughton. 60rmb to get in the door, starts at 10pm.
On Sat 26 at The Shelter
