Stalwart of the underground dance music scene, The Shelter provides a forum for both locally-based independent electronic artists and DJs, and new international alternative dance acts. A converted bomb shelter, the club is dark, sweaty, black, loud, and thumping. Virtually every single Shanghai independent promoter has a weekly or monthly party therein, and so music ranges on a given night from Reggae to IDM to Drum n Bass to Electro to Hip Hop. Drinks are cheap (for real cheap) and cover ranges from 10rmb to 50rmb depending on whose playing.

Brought 2 friends, payed 50 entrance fee each. Club was totally empty at 1:30. Complained at the front door in front ofther guests and therefore got threatened and physically attacked by door staff

Once an unrivaled venue for djs and music lovers, Shelter today is nothing but a frat house gone wrong. Musically speaking, it is only once every few months that an actual good dj comes.

Always a good choice if you are looking for quality music. They have D&B, Techno, Reggae etc... Service is quite good too. No "check me and my bottle out", No Show off. In Shelter, we are here for dancing.

Great venue. the music is a garbled pill of shit though, i went several times expecting to here great nasty ass electro, instead i was fed a load of horrible mash up shit that almost made me vomit!

Free the wax and uprooted sunshine work hard to bring the most fantastic musicians to the shelter: eliot lipp, clive chin, the gaslamp killer, dj krush, and the list goes on... great venue for music, dancing, and people.
