Editor's Description

The general agreement is that Simply Thai is just okay. Slightly pricey, the food tastes average, looks average, and is sized average. Service is slow and not particularly helpful. Admittedly, the good experiences at Simply Thai outnumber the bad, so it is worth a shot-- the result ultimately depends on the kind of day they're having.

Simply Thai has a nice selection of Thai food, although perhaps the portions are pretty small. Decor is not terribly Thai, but my friends and I were amused by the image on the toilet door. Service is not too bad, waiters were pretty attentive. The only thing which I thought was odd was the Tom Yam soup, which tasted more like the Singaporean version of Chilli Crab, but in soup form. Worth trying if you want to get decent Thai food, but don't expect it to be cheap. Prepare to pay at least 200rmb for a good meal.

SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE. This was my second time at the XTD Simply Thai and while the first time was satisfactory (to be fair), the second experience was an exercise in patience. First mistake: of a table of six, the waiter "forgot" to take my order until I reminded him as he was leaving. Second mistake: Taking forever and a day to bring out our orders. We waited and starved for at least 45 minutes before we got our food and the restaurant was NOT busy whatsoever. We just kept watching food come out and proceed to other tables, some of which we swore came in after we did. Third mistake: Bringing our food separately, resulting in some people already finished or half-way through their meal while others continued starving. Sitting down to eat with a group of people should be a pleasant enjoyable experience filled with conversation between bites. Instead, our table of six was filled with silence and dismay. As we left, we overhead a girl exclaim about how fast their order came, much to our collective dismay. Thai restaurants, even cheap ones, in the United States are famous for their exceptional service from constantly smiling servers. In Shanghai, when paying Western prices for average Thai food, I fully expect at least the same level of service. At the very least, don't forget to take someone's order!

Re Shanghaikai\'s review Didn\'t get all the food at the same time?? How long have u been in Shanghai?? Not long it seems... You\'re supposed to share the food man! When are people gonna understand that they\'re not in their home country anymore! There are different standards of service here!!

Go well with taste of ShanghaiNing. Casual, relax, enjoyable, Thai food typical one.

Best casual thai restaurant. I wouldn't expect too much from the service but at least they are friendly. Food is great, good value for money. Would recommend the papaya salad and the phad tai. However the green curry is probably not the best u can find in town. Check their funny gayish advertisements on your table: "Tom is Yum" (promoting the tom yam gong) as title of a sexy drawing of an handsome almost naked guy in speedo. That was a funny one the staff was even smiling about.
