Modern European fine-dining from German chef Stefan Stiller, as part of the south Bund's Cool Docks development. There's a first-floor deli open for lunch, but the heart of this place is the sleek sixth-floor dining room and seventh-floor terrace with impressive, unique views. Stiller's previous stints included Mimosa and Club Shanghai, but with his current eponymous location and excellent menu of German-accented European food, he seems to have hit his stride. Good marks, too, for some of Shanghai's best service and a fifth-floor cooking school.

WOW! Honestly, this was the best meal either my husband or I have had in SH (and we've been to some pretty nice places). The service was top notch and attentive, serving table water without a sneer (you know who you are M1nt), and suggesting dishes based on what we mentioned we like.
I had the risotto as a starter. It was absolutely divine. My husband ordered the beef tartar which I didn't even get to taste because he wouldn't share!
For the main I had the chicken breast stuffed with foie gras and he had the lamb shank. Again, both dishes were outstanding. Really full of flavor. The chicken was moist and juicy and was a nice portion. The lamb was cooked to perfection with just enough pink.
They pre-made a chocolate cake with "Happy Anniversary" on it so I'm not sure what the dessert menu looks like but if the cake is anything to go by I'm sure they are awesome.
We had two martini's, a bottle of house red, two starters, two mains, and a cake and the bill came to 1500ish RMB. Bargain! In this town you can end up spending that at freaking Cantina Agave.
We'll be going again, and taking friends. It was a food experience that needs to be shared.

Chef Stefan Stiller's menu is several courses of sophisticated continental cuisine. The evening starts with an apertif of sparkling wine and canapes and goes onto dishes like cured salmon with oyster-cucubmer salad, seared turbot fillet with morels and green asparagus risotto, stuffed beef tenderloin with polenta, mushrooms and zuchinni and sun-dried tomatoes, a dessert of cream cheese dumplings and vanilla ice cream with strawberry mousse and rhubarb compote. Dinner costs 1688rmb+10% per couple.

Stiller's is a lone outpost of quality and fine-dining in the south Bund's slow-to-develop Cool Docks complex. Regardless, he's been garnering good reviews for his modern European cuisine and is now taking his creativity to brunch. In lieu of standards, Stiller has an everchanging cast of small plates. For 398rmb+10% per person, you order an unlimited amount of them. 11:30am to 3pm.
