Editor's Description
Last updated: July 30th, 2008
Located in the tough-to-get-to Hongkou district, the Doulun museum is the first state-owned hub dedicated solely to modern art. Spiral staircases wind through the seven-story Bauhaus structure that collaborates with Asian museums to bring in the occasional big name. The Doulun is worth visiting for the architecture, surrounding neighborhood and eye-catching modern sculpture. However, the exhibits are sometimes bizarre, often irrelevant and clearly government controlled.
