Din Tai Fung is a Taiwanese chain, but don't hold it against them. Their versions of Chinese snack food -- dumplings, noodles, steamed buns, and simple vegetable dishes -- are impeccable, as is their highly-trained service. You pay for the luxury of all of this, of course. A basket of DTF's excellent xiaolongbao, whose delicate folds (always exactly 18), translucent skin, and remarkable consistency make them arguably the best in Shanghai, runs about ten times the going rate of a street-side stall. As their always-packed restaurants demonstrate, the high standard is often worth it.

A bit pricey than the average dumplings place. But this place us well worth it. AMAZING and perfect size dumplings. Fantastic and attentive no attitude service in shanghai. very clean.
Great variety of Xiao long baos including truffles.... Try and see what u think
The hot and sour soup is very good too.

Down to feed?! YES! Din Tai Fung has been the best place to get those yummy little xiaolongbaos. People, I've been to a lot of dumpling places, but this by far wins! Even better than that famous place in YuGardens where the line gets ridiculously long.
You will pay a lot more than the average Chinese citizen, but do understand that you just can't go wrong with the food at this place. That is, unless they bring it to you cold. This has only happened once when they were really slow and were about to close up shop for the day.
Nice basic decor which says "This place is clean" and some pictures of famous people around which says "We are that baller" but the reason to bring anyone here (be it a date, business dinner, or friends) is because you can be sure that the food will be a fantastic first or last Chinese meal!

Consistent! Always reliable!
I know these dumplings are a little expensive! But ... with truffle - heck... i'll pay!
Hot, Soupy, and delicious parcels of gastronomy!
Easy menu, great variety of choice, great flavours. The best zhong zi in shanghai.
The service here is always attentive and military like in its delivery.
DTF would easily have one of the best service training models I have seen in this town to date.
If I have friends in town, DTF has to be on one of the spots we visit - great for lunch or later supper.
Its very clean, its affordable, its organised, its delicious... for me a winner.

Still good despite being packed with tourists, many XLBs on offer. The truffle option is tempting but I've done them all. Stick to the classics.
