Goga is Shanghai veteran chef Brad Turley playing host, cooking Cali-Asian food, and wearing a Hawaiian print shirt. Turley has taken his San Fran background (GO-lden GA-te), his career layover in Hawaii (with Roy Yamaguchi), and his decade in Asia (Vietnam, Shanghai), and turned them into twenty-odd seats and about as many dishes.

I've been here 3-4 times, but would definitely come back again and again! I like this place! It's tiny, but sweet and have very good atmosphere. The food - well, it's just outstanding!
It's really good! It's tasty and it's how should I put this - unique!
Every dish is masterpiece! Don't get me wrong I've been in many nice places and this is one of the favourite!
I personally adore tuna salad, crab cakes and the dessert, can't remember the name now, but smth with the chocolate))) sorry!
Yes, a bit pricey, very pricey if u are like me don't get used to carry a lot of cash.
Actually the thing that u can't pay with ur card, even the one of Chinese Bank a bit frustrating, coz to run to the nearest ATM while u r still digesting ur dinner it's not the way u want to finish ur evening))
Anyway, it's good, if u care about food taste more than decor GOGA is right choice!

Visited Gogo on my own while on a business trip. I made a reservation online in the afternoon and got a reply really quickly to confirm my reservation.

My waiter was really helpful and gave me very efficient service, he even remembered my name and gave me tissues for the toilet!

I had the sashimi, tune and cod, all of which were delicious.

Following the meal the owner Brad came round and checked on everyone in the restaurant, he was extremely hospitable and friendly.

I love this restaurant, I'll be recommending it to my friends and, if I get the chance to visit Shanghai again, I'll definitely be visiting again myself.
    Pretty damn good

First time trying after hearing about this place for a long time. Not disappointed. Not every dish was a standout winner, and service was a little inexperienced/inattentive/slack/sneaky, but overall I'd go back.

Lobster roll. Not bad, not as good as I hoped. Addition of corn cob was nice, but we never got new plates, so we had the "de-corned" cob sitting around on our plates for the rest of our meal... If you're going to serve something with a non-edible part, either change plates or provide a bin like Japanese do with edamame. An attentive, experienced waiter would have noticed/cared about this.

Grilled Squid/Octopus & Tuna salad. Excellent, the standout, will go back for this, joins my small list of must eat dished in SH. So good we ordered twice. However here also a lack of experience or care from the waiter. The dressing was so good, we ordered bread. It was pretty obvious we wanted to use the bread to wipe up the sauce/dressing, however, the waiter whips away the plate with the remaining sauce before putting the bread down on the table.... Just needs a word with the waiter "Often in Western restaurants, if people ask for bread mid-meal, it's a compliment to the sauce chef, and the dish is NOT finished if just the sauce is left".

Cod. Beautiful, flaky, fish, unusual, delicious, sauce.

Adobo Beef Cheeks. Interesting and worth ordering once.

    Other service issues;
    1. If guests order wine/sparkling, show them the bottle and put the ice bucket near them. We ordered the US sparkling (quite good, and a somewhat reasonable 300RMB) and were brought 3 glasses, we had to ask for the bottle which was apparently on ice downstairs. At least show us the bottle before pouring, we didn't know if we'd actually bought it or we'd somehow just ordered glasses.

    2. Evenly distribute the mineral water. Everyone's glass was close to empty, waiter then almost completely fills 2 and has no water for the third (there was 3 of us). This led to us having to pour from one glass to the other ourselves. Waiter, "Before pouring figure out how much to go in each to have 3 equally full glasses". Or you don't care (in which case choose another profession) OR this is some kind of sneaky up-selling trick designed to get you to order another bottle, if so is unbecoming of a place like this which isn't cheap to begin with. A bottle of San P costing 70 RMB is also annoying but so common I won't hold it against these guys in particular.

So, in summary, worth it for the food, but for fine dining prices, waiter needs to be more attentive/better trained. Interaction with American, chef (I think) guy fine, but let down by his local colleague's inattention or inexperience or apathy.

    Would Goga again.

Not sure what the negative reviews have been about recently. One word sums up our dinner: Amazeballs.

Started with the sea urchin/avocado and tuna appetizers. Great flavors and fresh ingredients. The highlight of the meal was the miso cod. Literally cooked to perfection with a perfect amount of rich puree. Infinitely better than fish we've had with Bundside views. I wanted to hurdle the bar and hug the chefs.

Downside-it's tough to have a quiet meal in such a small place when there are larger groups, but that didn't detract from the actual food. Service was attentive.

I went with 3 friends to Goga on a warm-ish weekday night. The place was not so busy but the tables did fill up. Overall the food was ok, pricey. Best bit was the lemon curd dessert.

The wine list is not extensive but is pricey for what the wine is. For the 4 of us the bill was not just Bund level but worthy of London prices. But in London the food and wine would have been much better value.

I hope that Goga can get its mojo back as I am fan of small eateries, but as it stands it leaves a lot to be desired.
