I just finished a very very very tasty lunch at Nene. They have set lunch options of RMB 98 for salad/soup and pizza/pasta or RMB 138 with a main instead of pizza/pasta, I had the bean salad (I forget the name) and mushroom pizza, my friend had the arugula salad and chicken salad platter main.
I take my Italian food very seriously and I like to think that I am hard to please; I am very pleased by my experience at Nene!
The Chef is excellent, he prepared the food perfectly, the service staff are warm, attentive and informative, this is all complimented by an overall inviting atmosphere – I highly recommend Nene and will definitely be going back there for more!

I'd passed Nene many times until I finally stepped in and gave it a try. It's a quaint little Italian place that reminds me of restaurants that dot neighborhoods throughout my native Boston. The venue is tastefully done with understated wooden tables and an open kitchen; the food, wonderfully fresh pizza, pasta and such.
I treated myself to a plate of homemade Tortelli (larger version of ravioli) filled with spinach ricotta and topped with a white sauce that included mushrooms and rocket. It was damn delicious, but at RMB128 (US) also damn expensive; no side salad — which is fine — but I had to ask for bread, which should be automatic with any pasta dish (for sopping up sauce). And while I was envisioning a hearty roll or two, I received a few tiny slivers of bread that left me thinking, "Are you kidding me?"
The bread thing aside, I really enjoyed my meal, washed down with a bottle of Estrella Spanish beer, a beer I first sampled at nearby Bocado (awesome Tapas), and whose taste genuinely complements your meal instead of crashing into it.
With lower prices I would find my way to Nene on a very regular basis, as I live quite close by. But as it stands now, the better deal in food and drink stands just around the corner at Boxing Cat Brewery.

I am not sure if it is because they are new to Shanghai, or they are trying to see what the upper limits of overpriced food , but the pricing is a multiple of what should be acceptable.
Sure, the food is good, but at 98RMB for a slice of lasagna that doesn't have a consistent core temperature is all I needed to know I have no need to ever return to Nene.
There is a reason why DaMarco (and others) succeeded. Value for price. Every time.

Despite having to reserve the bar since all tables had been booked well in advance, my first experience eating at Nene was excellent. Food was impressively fresh, service was friendly, personable, and attentive, and the decor was simple but inviting. Prior to arriving, the hostess sent me a text to alert they were cash only and could not produce an invoice, which was considerate as opposed to coming to dinner and ordering tons of food, only to be told at the end that cards aren't accepted, which happens all too often here.
The only downside to the restaurant is the lack of seating mentioned in the previous review. Diners were turned down throughout the night because of the limited seating. That being said, sitting at the bar afforded us the opportunity to witness the food and drink preparation, all of which was done with considerable care. The attention paid to the preparation and plating of the food was evident both from the taste of the dishes and the obvious looks of concentration on the chefs' faces. As a result, each dish was prepared slowly and with excruciating care, to make sure every detail was correct before being sent out to the tables. A group of 5, we decided to get a bunch of dishes to share, which I definitely recommend. We started off with three antipasti all of which were excellent. The buffalo mozzarella in the Caprese was the freshest I have eaten in Shanghai. Furthermore, the quality of the of the meat in both the prosciutto and melon antipasti as well as the charcuterie platter was obvious from the taste. For our entrees we shared 3 pizzas which had a good crust crust and good combinations of ingredients. Again, the freshness of the ingredients really shone through the overall taste.
We finished with a chocolate molten cake, compliments of the chef, and a round of limoncello. Given the quality of ingredients, the service, and the overall value for money, Nene has the potential to be one of my favorite restaurant in Shanghai.

There is one new cozy spot in yongfu lu. Decor absolutely nice , it seems to be at home; the food fresh , delicious , really good. The pizza is one of the best I have had since I have been in Shanghai and they also serve new style one, introduced by the owner as square roma pizza. We were there for dinner with nice atmosphere. They do not have too many tables, I guess this should be changed to let more people seat, and the service must still work a lot but at least food , price and the decor are the reason will let us back to there for sure.
