Wai Po Jia, or Grandma's House as it's known in English, is wildly popular with the locals. It's for good reason, too. It's a handsome restaurant with a slick contemporary decor and reasonably hip music in the background. Service is remarkably prompt and friendly by Shanghai standards. Most importantly, the food is generally quite delicious. The menu comprises mostly dishes from or inspired by China's Yangtze Delta region, especially Hangzhou. Presentation also gets a gold star. Expect huge crowds and long waits at peak hours.
