ALTER. and Sugar House don't do New Year's Eve as an afterthought. For the end of 2025, the two crews are teaming up once again to take over Alila Shanghai for a multi-stage countdown party that runs from rooftop to indoor lounges, with music, drinks, and a proper midnight moment built into the night—not awkwardly bolted on at 11:59pm.

The party runs from 9pm on December 31 to 2am on January 1, spreading across three stages: an outdoor rooftop garden for the countdown, plus two indoor spaces with very different moods. Expect live music early, DJs later, steady pacing throughout, and enough room to move without feeling like you're stuck in one room all night.

What Makes This Different From Other NYE Parties

Most New Year's Eve events in Shanghai fall into one of two categories: overpacked club nights with a countdown graphic on a screen, or hotel parties that look great on paper but lose momentum by midnight. This one is designed more like a festival—scaled down, but intentional.

Each stage has its own musical identity, its own bar, and its own crowd energy. You can spend the whole night chasing one sound, or drift between rooms as the vibe shifts. The rooftop countdown stage mixes live band performance and international DJ sets, with an actual production moment at midnight, including gourmet snacks and a holographic cold-fireworks show—spectacle without going full Vegas.

Indoors, things split nicely: ALTER.'s Secret Roof keeps it intimate and musically focused, while Sugar House's lounge leans high-energy, dance-floor-first. No filler rooms, no dead zones.

The Music: Three Rooms, Three Moods

Countdown Stage (Outdoor Rooftop Garden, 9pm–12:30am)

This is where midnight happens. Headlined by Victor Aime, a longtime fixture of the Paris and Shanghai electronic scenes, plus Wave 9, a nine-piece live band created specifically for this New Year's event.

The sound moves across genres and languages, building toward the countdown rather than sprinting straight at it.

ALTER. NYE 2026

Curated by the ALTER. team, this room is about controlled chaos: ALTER. Soundsystem delivering synth-driven, disco-leaning dance music, with DORA bringing her famously genre-agnostic sets that pull from funk, hip hop, post-punk, breaks, and bass music without ever feeling scattered.

Sugar House Room (Indoor Lounge, 10pm–late)

Sugar House takes over Alila's largest private lounge with a more sensual, high-energy club feel. Hip hop, R&B, afro sounds, house, and contemporary club music from Heatwolves, Kin.J, MMQ, and Muscle Lee, DJs who know how to keep a floor moving without resorting to gimmicks.

Why You Should Go

Because New Year's Eve only really works when the night feels paced, not panicked. This one gives you space to dance, drink, talk, disappear into another room, and re-emerge somewhere new—all without leaving the building. It's social without being chaotic, polished without being stiff, and late enough to feel like you actually went out, not just counted down and went home.

Also: rooftop views, decent champagne, and a crowd that's there to dance into the new year, not just film it.
