Beijing's electronic music underground is really firing on all cylinders right now. Outside the parameters of your typical house, techno, and EDM club scenes — which are alive and well, no doubt — there is increasing crossover between experimental music, indie rock, punk, hip hop, and other forms, attracting musicians with no formal dance music training to ply their trade in unfamiliar contexts, sweaty basements, black boxes, white cubes, even glimmering Gongti rooftops. Here are four events this weekend for a fix of live electronic music, some of it danceable, some not, but all worth a look and listen:
