China-based contemporary art magazine LEAP has curated a jaw-dropping collection of new video from some of Asia's most provocative young talent. Works from eight concerns are on show in total, unified to "explore the anonymity and anxiety of desire experienced in the self-recognition, social patterns, and sexual relations that comprise queer/non-heterosexual identities." The show is inspired by the cover story of the latest issue of LEAP, which is entitled "Queer”, “Conditions”. The "Conditions" in that refers to various index indicators of physicality deployed online and off to communicate identity and desire when encountering... anyone desirable. A/S/L. Top, bottom, or versatile. The exhibition itself is mostly comprised of video installations spread out into a blank and blue corridor on the third floor of popular bananas gay club, Destination. It's a jarring and invigorating sensorial experience and a bold curatorial grouping that spans from sober, somber, reflective video pieces (Trevor Yeung, Sleepy Bed (Frankfurt Hostel 1), 2014) to psycho-rave camp contortion (Chen Tianzhuo, Picnic, 2014), to wastoid youth, agit-orgy Osama shenanigans (Hangzhou's Double Fly Art Center). The show crescendos with a video installation that's been set up in the bathroom space on the third floor of Destination which features -- dead-pan and unwaveringly shot -- an extremely graphic act of coprophilia. It's some shit you've never seen before. (Probably. I assume.) But you definitely should. Go now. LEAP's "Conditions" concludes it's all-too-brief run on September 6 at Destination. Entry fee is subject to whatever the club has going on downstairs for that night, but you should be alright if you check it out around 8pm or so. Just head right to the third floor.
