Walk Through the Prado Without Leaving Shanghai

What is it

Art Masters is a 30-minute VR trip through the Prado Museum, minus the flight to Madrid. You follow a slightly oddball night guard through an empty, reimagined Prado, stepping inside works by Velázquez, Veronese, Bruegel, Rubens, Goya, and Bosch. One minute you're in the mirror maze of Las Meninas, the next you're ducking through Bosch's upside-down, fever-dream world of The Garden of Earthly Delights. It's part art history lecture, part immersive theater, with some interactive props—torches, hidden details, that sort of thing. Nothing too scary, but you might catch yourself jumping at shadows.

Who is it for

If you like your art with some adventure built in, this scratches the itch. Culture people will get a close-up look at five centuries of European painting. The darker bits—like Goya's Witches' Sabbath or Bosch's surreal chaos—might be too much for kids, but older teens and adults will be fine. Also a good intro for anyone curious about VR or bored of staring at canvases on a wall.

How to buy tickets

Runs daily until October 12, 10am–6pm at Jiushi International Art Center. Tickets are here. The whole thing takes about half an hour, so budget your time if you're stacking it with other art season stops nearby.
