Led by singer and producer Rita Csanyi & drummer Daniel Kocsis, Lativan post-punk cold wave act Anait seamlessly fuses dark pop, R&B, and Balkan folk vocal elements to craft a sound that is both distinctive and captivating. Mixing a melancholy motive with a compelling dance rhythm makes the composition ambiguous, engaging these influences range from Slipknot to PLOHO. Despite their limited time on the scene, the band is starting to put up steam quickly - catch them at Mao Livehouse this evening.

Slovenian pianist and composer Bowrain (Tine Grgurevič) brings his unique mix of jazz, electronic, and ambient sounds to Singer Space. Fresh off his 2024 LP Million Homes, the multi-disciplined talent is known for his delicate piano melodies and innovative electronic textures and has performed with global acts like LAMB and Fennesz. Genre-defying, he’s one of Europe’s most exciting contemporary artists live.

Johnny’s House aka Front Bar aka the scrappy little punk bar adjacent to Harley’s Back Room has converted a side of their room into a stage - with the idea of live shows every weekend. Rugged DIY no-holds barrel showcases giving a voice to the young blooded rock and rollers across town. For Valentine’s Day, they’ll be hosting Taco Tuesday - whose upbeat, frenzied pop punk keeps the energy high and the good times rolling - and Mini Koala - the melodic punk whipper-starters that isn’t afraid to inject a bit of pop aplomb into their hard sound.

Clear and energetic pop-rock sound with a measure of sincerity and soul-infused in the vocals - Japan’s GOOD ON THE REEL is the latest band from our neighbors to perform in Shanghai courtesy of promoters and label Luuv Label. Consider by someone of the most popular groups in the neo-emo scene - their tracks are catchy as all hell - underlined by articulated guitar work and crisp evocative lyrics. The band will be supported by city pop enthusiasts CityNaiveteClub.

Greek thrash metal ambassadors supreme Suicidal Angels - one of the most gnarly representatives of the genre of this century - wreck havoc this weekend over at Mao Livehouse. Disciples of titans like Slayer, Exodus, Kreator, and more - bring a modern and violent take on retro speed and thrash metal - firing on all cylinders and not afraid to veer headfirst into blinding buzzing rhythms. The band will be supported by multi-national Tokyo-based death metal act Neuroticos who have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the Metal world with their scorching guitars, thunderous drums, and guttural vocals. Representing Shanghai will be our very own thrash speed metal ruffians Kill All Posers. Mosh pit heaven.

Let’s get freaky over at trigger - experimental music hub and home base for all things off-the-beaten-path musically - and what a spread. Special guests of honor are Amazonia, O - the Brazilian shapeshifter (and drummer of rock act Dirty Fingers) whose shamanic soundscapes incorporate everything from black metal and noise to folk and more. Rounding out the lineup is Ultracocker Shocking - the vocal side project of triggermen Torturing Nurse and the side project of Huang Lei aka GanzfeldLab that’s called YAMAHAHA. Then the three will combine Voltron style to form a new band - Igreja Sino-Brasileira do Reino do Noise - which surely must be up to no good.
