Heading out of town and can't bring your four-legged friend along? Shanghai has a growing selection of pet hotels offering everything from simple boarding and supervised play to training, grooming and more structured care. Here are three options worth considering, depending on how much space, activity and extra care your pet needs.

BuddyDog Training & Boarding

BuddyDog has been operating in Shanghai since 2008. Their facility is particularly geared toward longer stays, with dedicated dog and cat rooms, outdoor play areas and indoor spaces for rainy days. Dogs are taken out for supervised play three times a day, while the facility also offers swimming, training and grooming.

For dogs with more energy — or those who could use some behavioural work while their owners are away — BuddyDog also offers boarding combined with training. The Fengxian location is one of the places where its board-and-train service is available.

Kungfu Pet · Pet Haven

For pet owners heading out of Shanghai during the holiday, finding a comfortable place for pets to stay can be just as important as planning the trip itself. Kungfu Pet's Pet Haven locations combine pet boarding with grooming, sitting, training, and activity-based care.

The Putuo branch is located inside Taopu Central Park, offering a spacious environment away from the city center. Alongside regular boarding services, Pet Haven features dedicated activity areas, four swimming pools, grooming services, and enrichment programs including training sessions designed to keep pets active and engaged during their stay.

Kungfu Pet currently operates multiple locations across Shanghai, including branches in Putuo, Baoshan, and Songjiang. During the National Day holiday, boarding prices will remain unchanged, and pets staying at any Kungfu Pet location will receive one complimentary swimming session at the Haijiang branch.

Pet Castle in Minhang takes a more structured approach to boarding, with dogs grouped according to their size, temperament, age and health needs. There are three supervised outdoor play sessions each day, indoor activities and a dedicated quiet period from noon to 2pm. Staff conduct daily health checks and monitor appetite, energy levels and other signs of wellbeing, while dogs that aren't suitable for group activities can receive one-on-one attention.
