That's Mandarin

Camp Description:

At That's Mandarin's Chinese Summer Camps, kids work on improving their Mandarin skills by taking part in — depending on the specific program — a combination of classwork, Chinese cultural activities, and visits to different historical and tourist sites in Shanghai. In 2022, That's Mandarin is offering three types of Chinese Summer Camp programs: Classes-Only Camp, Day Camp, and Online Camp (for campers who are in other cities in China or overseas).

LearningLeaders

LearningLeaders offers debate and public speaking workshops, activities, and classes for kids coming from all levels of experience, with the aim of using the practice to improve critical thinking, personal expression, and learning efficiency — skills that they can use in their academic careers and take with them into the real world.

Grades 3 - 12. Three programs are offered depending on skill level, a placement test, and language preference.

Camp Description:

The three general camp formats are public speaking, debate, and writing. In each camp, students will debate and discuss themes ranging from current events to social concerns. Students are encouraged to think critically about the changing world around them and confidently express their viewpoints. Popular and unique course offerings include: TED Talk, beginner-friendly Novice Argumentation camps, content-based Economics & Science debate, interview-focused Pathways Programs, Journalistic & Creative Writing, and Academic Research and Essay Writing. We're also proud to announce a newly-developed experience entitled "The Art of Decision Making," diving into the complex ethical and rational processes behind making choices.

Classes range from 2.5 to 3 hours each, and maximize student speaking and feedback opportunities. In each and every class, students will participate in impromptu speaking exercises, strategy/concept discussions, applied-learning activities, and a debate or speech performance. Each class ends with a student reflection. If your goal is to improve confidence, critical thinking, and communication skills, there is surely something here for you.

Unique in Shanghai, LearningLeaders presents a highly specialized and focused learning opportunity for students interested in improving debate skills. Their "coaches" work with students coming from all levels of public speaking and with both English-language and Chinese-language backgrounds. Founded in 2014, they have developed a mature curriculum with a wide range of practices and techniques to maximize student speaking time and coach feedback time.

Yoseikan Cross Training

At a Glance:

Kids learning Yoseikan Budo, a comprehensive martial arts system that touches on and combines aspects of traditional martial arts, modern MMA, and gym fitness, with the goals of improving physical fitness, mental health, and clarity.

The Yoseikan Budo on 1 Maoming Nan Lu in Huangpu.

Camp Description:

Kids Budo is a summer camp for multidisciplinary martial arts for children from 6 to 13. It includes calisthenics, balance exercises with balloons, hand / leg strikes, team games, rolling techniques, grappling throws, and foam weapons training. A certificate of completion and various prizes will be given after one full week of training. By joining the second or more weeks, kids will receive their own official Budo Passport for keeping track of their martial arts progress.

Who's hosting:

Yoseikan Cross Training is an intimate but comprehensive martial arts studio with traditional and modern sections: aikijujitsu, kenjutsu, grappling, MMA, kick boxing, self-defense, health and fitness. They provide a diverse and welcoming environment for students of all ages, genders, nationalities and different martial arts backgrounds. Their head coach has extensive experience in combat sports and other martial arts.

Active Kidz Childers Field

At a Glace:

A one-stop-shop — or field, rather — for kids looking to learn skills, play and improve in the team sports of volleyball, basketball, baseball, and soccer, among others.

Ages:

4 to 18

Dates and Schedule:

Depending on the sport and program, Active Kidz runs group sessions from June 20 to August 5, Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm.

Camp Description:

A wide range and breadth of team sports for kids from 4 all the way up to 18 years of age. Programs include football, basketball, baseball, and volleyball, among others, and are conveniently located in both Puxi and Pudong, with a variety of classes and time slots to choose from, all day, every week day.

Who's hosting:

Active Kidz Shanghai is an organization that provides health development programs for children. Using sport as the main educational tool, the programs support children physically, psychologically, socially and technically. Programs on offer are team sports such as soccer, basketball, ice hockey, volleyball and baseball.

Price:

Tennisline International Tennis Academy (Minhang)

Tennisline is an international tennis academy with a team of expat coaches with extensive international experience and multiple professional certifications (ITF, PTR, iTPA). Jiahui International Hospital

For kids interested in health and hospital sciences, Jiahui Health is offering a free two-week program wherein kids can shadow healthcare professionals and learn more about the different aspects of professional healthcare.

Dates and Schedule:

Three time slots are available:

Option 1: Orientation: July 9; Week 1: July 11 – July 15; Week 2: July 18 – July 22.

Option 2: Orientation: July 23; Week 1: July 25 – July 29; Week 2: August 1 – August 5.

Location: Jiahui International Hospital

Camp Description:

For students interested in possibly pursuing a career in healthcare, Jiahui Health offers an opportunity to complete a two-week Health Scholar Program at Jiahui International Hospital. Working alongside and shadowing their team of international healthcare professionals, students will be able to experience different departments within a healthcare institution and gain an understanding of how they interact in order to deliver excellent patient care. The deadline for applications is June 19. Successful candidates will be selected after the online interview.

Who's hosting:

Jiahui Health is a series of clinics providing family medicine and specialist medical services. All other clinics in the chain, while perfectly nice, pale in comparison to this massive, 500-bed international hospital Jiahui has built in Xuhui.
