*** Something for everyone this weekend, whether you're just some brah who's trying to get lucky during a dubstep set or… well that's pretty much always happening. It's the zeitgeist. But there's also some punk and metal on Saturday for you niche heads. And a film screening if you're above it all. Onward: ***
FRIDAY
S.T.D. @ Dada
Dada Barhosts Shanghai party promoters S.T.D. tonight. If you've ever spent any time in Shanghai you're probably familiar with that crew. They've brought over acts such as Tiga, Boys Noize, and Simian Mobile Disco, and have promoted Shanghai shows for the recent tour-throughers Moon Duo and Cold Cave, among many others. Basically anything with a whiff of hipster cash has S.T.D. involved at some layer. They're making a rare Beijing appearance tonight with lazer bass, electrowave, and disco punk emanating from the laptops and CD-J rigs of R3, ADO8, Linfeng, and Bobby Dropper. 30rmb cover, 10pm-late. ***
Saturday
Chun Qiu @ 13 Club
One for the longhairs: Beijing metal lords Chun Qiu play a warmup gig before shipping off to Germany for August's Wacken Open Air music festival. Chun Qiu recently added a new singer, who debuted the other week at Mao Livehouse. This is the last chance to see them before their trip, and perhaps for a good while thereafter. Kaiser is a very busy man, after all. Tomorrow night they share the bill with up-and-comers Nine Treasures, who are also representing China at Wacken. 9pm start, 80rmb ticket.

Discord Album Release @ School
If you're more of a punks 'n' skins type, you'll want to head to School Bar to check out Discord's new album. Discord are some real Beijing punk OG's. Early adopters. Their douban URL is literally site.douban.com/PUNK (caps mine). Here's their hit:
Questionable fascistic overtones on that one, but that's how the Beijing punx roll a lot of the time. Case in point: Misandao, who are sharing the bill on Saturday, along with Steely Heart and The Diders. 9pm start, 60rmb.

Temple Bar 2nd Anniversary
And then you've got Temple Bar's second anniversary on Saturday. They're just now entering the "terrible 2's," god help us. Celebrate with a highly danceable live set from Not There and party-ready proto-punk from CD-R crusher DJ Compact Dicks. 10pm start, FREE, lots of booze flowing at this one...

Sunday
Mongolian Bling @ The Hutong
Then wind down on Sunday with a screening of Mongolian hip hop documentary Mongolian Bling and a chat with its director, Benj Binks. This was screened at the JUE festival last March, but maybe you missed it. There was a lot going on back then. Not so much now. Here's your encore. There will be Mongolian cocktails available, which I guess would be… oh wait, Morgan already made that joke. Seriously though, they better have some Chinggis. 5pm start, 100rmb ticket. *** Then be prepared to get totally radical, bodacious, and EXCELLENT as we screen an undisputed classic of the silver screen, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, on Monday at Dada. Keanu Reeves will be there probably, he practically lives on Nanluoguxiang these days.
