*** There's plenty going on this weekend, and ya better soak it in while you can. All your buddies are going back to their hometowns next week. First let's recap what we've already covered this week: coupla Shanghai groups are hitting Temple tomorrow for a show called Four Fantastic Bands. Stream the visitors' jams here. Also on Saturday, Dada brings back DJ Shortkut, who was just there in May. Flash your SmartBeijing app at the door for free tix. And on Sunday, Cat Power wraps up the Modern Sky Festival over at Thinkpad Space. Read our interview with her here, it's some straight up bonkers shit. And cop tickets here. All that said, here are some more worthy ways to waste yourself this weekend: ***
FRIDAY
SUBS @ Temple
Beijing underground rock OG's SUBS are throwing a going away party for their erstwhile drummer, Carl Edmunds. He's heading back to the promised land of Australia. Gonna be some heavy bittersweet rager vibes on this one. Check out BeijingDaze's exit interview with Carl here. Opening realness from the Beijing Misfits, you lil angelfucks. Free, 9pm start.

Kode9 @ Dada
Downstairs at Dada, Shanghai's Sub-Culture crew, whom we've been seeing a lot of lately, celebrates their sixth anniversary by hosting London-based dubstep authority/Hyperdub founder Kode9. Support sets from Sub-Culture's head honcho Drunk Monk, plus local heads Yauman and Shackup. Cover is 60rmb before 10:30pm, or 80rmb afterwards.

SATURDAY
AV Okubo @ School
Then on Saturday, Wuhan electro-rock live wires AV Okubo make a rare Beijing appearance at School. Wow, that's a lot of energy for such a small space. Expect this one to get packed. Support is from School house band Dr. Liu and the Human Centipede, who are also known for their unchained-id stage demeanor. This will be a good one. 80rmb ticket, 9:30pm start.

Iceberg @ XP
That same night, XP hosts the Beijing debut of Iceberg, Amerian auteur Maya Rudolph's short fictional paean to the murky pre-Olympics Beijing rock underground. Main character is Nova, a petite yet powerful drummer in a rising rock'n'roll band split by shifting romantic, filial, and personal loyalties. Nova is played by real-life dynamo Little Punk, who will give a live set after the screening. Also live is Guiguisuisui, thruoutin, and Birdstriking, whose bassist is also a central character in the film. End-o-the-night vinyl/cassette DJ sets by JRZ from Alpine Decline and DJ C.L.U.B.G.O.D.
9pm start, no entry fee.

Hotpot @ Migas
Last up: DJ Wordy & co. continue their Hotpot party series over at Migas. I heard that Migas just got a new PA and it doesn't sound as bad in there any more. That's cool. Style = bass, house, trap, hip hop, funk, soul, R&B, futurebeats, reggae, remix, electronic, classic. Little bit of everything. Free to enter before 11pm, 50rmb afterwards.
