New Drinks: Salud (BLGX)

Here's what the new Salud on Beiluoguxiang looks like. Two floors, lounge seating, and some very decent vodka infusions...

The Salud empire grew by another venue last Friday with the opening of Salud (BLGX). It's just down the road from their main venue up on Nanluoguxiang. It looks... Salud-y. So, two floors, with a bar, stool seating and a DJ booth on the first, and more of a cabin lounge-type thing upstairs. It's still pretty sparse -- kind of looks like a Salud starter kit -- but it's just opened up. Probably takes a good few years to get that trademark Salud grit. But yeah, if you've been to the other Salud up the road, this is the smaller, cleaner, brighter, and newer version. Probably, it's a little less boozy as well. Feels a bit more sedate. A bit more... mature? Or maybe, though, it's still just early in its run, I guess. Salud is sort of known for late-late night, Euro-happy boozed up vibes. Along with their other piece in the puzzle, Cafe de la Muerte, they've pretty much cornered that market in Beijing. Complimenting the live music focus (sort of) of Salud (NLGX), Salud (BLGX) supposedly going to be more of a club-type thing, and they've got a DJ booth to prove it, replete with resident DJ playing every Friday. No one was DJing when we went and music was a playlist combo of fucking god awful hair salon eurodance and that kind of swing jazz music that sounds like you're in a montage scene in the movie Swingers. Eh... Drinks: It's taken me long enough but I've finally figure out that if I just take pictures of the menu, it saves me from having to write the whole thing out. So... there it is. Cocktails and beers is what you get. In addition they've got some nice pastis, of course, which is what this is... ...and a range of specialty mojitos that come in three sizes. This is the middle-sized Strawberry Mojito. It wasn't the best but it did the job. Sufficiently bracing. Contained alcohol. But their main deal, drinks-wise is vodka infusions... And they offer a pretty interesting range of options... These two right here, that's a 25rmb-glass Lavender infusion on the left and a 25rmb-glass Sichuan Pepper version on the right. Gotta say, these were both really great. Super potent, with flavors really ringing through the vodka in a big way. Delicious. Thumbs up. So Salud Beiluoguxiang -- it's exactly what it says on the tin. It's a Salud and it's in Beiluoguxiang. If you like Modernista, Cafe de la Poste, and indeed, O.G. Salud, maybe swing by this one to get some vodka. Early on, it's looking pretty low-key during the week, with things maybe picking up a bit on Friday night. Salud always seems like a place that's entirely made by the people inside though, so we'll have to wait and see if they can build up the same sort of community around this new place as they've been successful at doing at their other venues... *** Salud (BLGX) is at 93 Beiluogu Xiang.
