One last bite, baby.

This is peak Shanghai. You feel something itchy on your thigh. You scratch it and feel a little blue, realizing this might be the last bite of the year. You might even miss the sensation. The smell of hualuoshui. Humid days are gone.

This is a funeral for Lil Tony, Lil City Shop, and all the other mosquitos in the city. Pour out a little huangjiu for the dead homies. And when you're done with all that, here are some places to dance, celebrate their brief lives, and welcome the turning of the season in the house of Virgo.

This is our weekly, human-curated shortlist of what's on. As always, hit up smartshanghai.com/events/nightlife for much more. Listing events is free - hit us up if you've got something planned.

New Writing Supermarket: 2m² "Children's Palace"

From Sep 11 until Sep 13 @ 889 GLO
From September 11 to 13, the New Writing Supermarket takes over Plaza 889 in Jing'an District, turning it into a "Youth Palace" where the ground floor becomes a playground for grown-up kids, while an abandoned hospital on the 6th floor gets repurposed as a temporary art space. From afternoon till late night, markets, DJ sets, and workshops keep things rolling: browse vintage toys and handmade goods, join an improv theater or electronic music production class, catch a mobile DJ performance pushing a cart through the crowd, or sign up for a Techno jump rope contest. If none of that appeals, head up to the abandoned hospital wing, where the whole floor has been transformed into a retro 1980s clinic, with artists taking over each ward with installations, performances, and interactive pieces. Market entry is free; abandoned Hospital admission: 88rmb; nighttime show admission: 128rmb; ticket with free-flow craft beer: 199rmb (more expensive tickets include admission to lower tiers). There are many workshops - for all details, check the organizer's WeChat. ID: 新写作超市
