Ever wanted to float in space but not quite ready to drop millions of dollars for that trip? Same. Well, now you can -- and you don't even have to leave Shanghai. The Infinite XR is here to make your space dreams come true. This is the world's largest, most immersive space exploration exhibit -- and it's making its international debut in Shanghai.
What is it?
Inspired by real NASA missions, The Infinite XR blends cutting-edge VR technology with the wonders of outer space, giving you a jaw-dropping, eye-popping, sensory overload of a journey. We're talking over 250 hours of footage filmed aboard the International Space Station (ISS) -- a floating lab where astronauts live and work in zero gravity. And while SpaceX is asking for a crazy $55 million to take you there, we say, "Why not just throw on a VR headset and save your money for something else?"
Here's How It Works:
You'll get strapped into a Meta Quest 2 VR headset, and suddenly, you're on a glowing trail that leads you to a life-sized replica of the ISS. No need to pack a chunky space suit -- just follow the trail and boom, you're "in space." You'll float around and explore different parts of the ISS like you're an astronaut (minus the whole training-for-years thing). But don't just stare at the walls! Touch everything! Turn your head at all possible angles! Press on floating "bubbles", unlocking 360-degree footage and interviews from an astronaut's life in space. Just try not to walk into a wall or elbow another visitor. Bonus points if you can find and pick up a ~virtual~ screwdriver in one of those rooms.
After you've had your fill of astronaut shenanigans, you'll be escorted to assigned seats in a separate room, where you'll get a breathtaking view of space beyond the ISS. Gaze out into the eyes of the infinite universe and marvel at the jaw-dropping sight of Planet Earth, spinning slowly beneath you. You'll find yourself staring in awe at the fragile beauty of our planet -- trying to process the sheer vastness of space while simultaneously pondering how on Earth we got here in the first place.
By the time your adventure ends, you might just find yourself more inspired, more appreciative, and a bit humbled by just how small we humans are.
Who is it for?
The Infinite XR is an immersive experience designed for anyone curious about the endless possibilities of extended reality. Whether you're a space geek, tech enthusiast, or adventure seeker, the Infinite XR transports you into a fantastical and lifelike world.
Unlike most "immersive" experiences that leave you wondering if you're just standing around looking like an idiot with a headset, The Infinite XR actually does immersive right. No gimmicks, no cheesy effects—just you, space, and a whole lot of real breathtaking views.
How to get your tickets
The INFINITE XR Immersive Space Experience, adapted from the Emmy Award-winning "Space Explorers: International Space Station Experience," was created in collaboration between Felix & Paul and PHI Studio. The cutting-edge XR experience has attracted over 500,000 visitors globally since its debut in Montreal in 2021 and continues to set new records. Shanghai marks the first stop for this exhibition outside of North America and its first exhibition in Asia.
