Shangyin Opera House and Opera National de Bordeaux proudly co-present Bizet's Carmen, a beloved French classic staged by renowned director Emmanuelle Bastet, celebrated for her innovative work in modern European opera. Her direction emphasizes the passion and freedom that define the character of Carmen, while set designer Tim Northam and costume designer Véronique Seymat transport the audience to 19th-century Seville with captivating visuals.
The production features the Shanghai Conservatory Orchestra, led by conductor Lin Daye, alongside a talented young cast, including award-winning soprano Elmina Hasan and tenor Julien Henric. This special performance marks 150 years of Carmen and celebrates 60 years of China-France diplomatic relations.
