The third volume of the ‘A Bunch of Noise’ Festival returns taking over Bandai Namco, trigger and UFOTerminal this week. A wildly ambitious and sprawling gathering of the noise, experimental, and avant-garde scene’s most prolific, boundary-pushing, and off-kilter acts - the festival will unfold over the first week of April - with the main course taking place at Bandai Namco on April 3rd, 4th and 5th with 34 international artists with music ‘spanning the range of harsh noise, electronic experimentation, improvisation, industrial noise, free from stylistic constraints and refuse to cater to auditory norms.’ Highlights on the international front include John Duncan - an American multi-platform artist whose body of work includes performance art, installations, contemporary music, video art, and experimental film; VOMIR - the harsh noise wall project of Paris-based Romain Perrot; Okinawan avant-garde tech idol Saya; Swiss sound researcher and composer G*Park; and many more. Meanwhile, representing our local scene will acts like black metal outfit R.N.V, Shanghai-based producer 33EMYBW, experimental calligrapher, and musician Qian Feng, amongst others. If it’s anything like the past two years, expect to be shocked, moved, and even befuddled - as fans throw themselves gleefully into the abyss - hooting and hollering at any given moment and even embedding themselves into a performers’ set (for better or worse). Pure expression, abstract exploration, or just unhinged anarchy - there’s both a visceral quality and a liberated affection to how performers in this field relay their sentiments and how the community around it actively encourages one another.
