About

This immersive Yue Opera reimagines China's greatest love tragedy, blending lavish costumes and haunting vocals with contemporary staging—prepare for the "flower burial" scene to absolutely wreck you. Starring award-winning performers Lu Zhiyan and Yu Guo, it's feudal-era heartbreak made viscerally beautiful.

Dream of the Red Chamber Synopsis

The frail and orphaned Lin Daiyu finds refuge at her maternal grandmother's home - the prestigious Jia Manor, where she forms an instant connection with her cousin Jia Baoyu.

Within the Grand View Garden, the kindred spirits Baoyu and Daiyu secretly read "The Romance of the Western Chamber," sharing their free-thinking ideals and nurturing a blossoming love, away from aristocratic constraints.

While Baoyu's father dreams of his son achieving conventional success, the rebellious young man spurns fame and tradition, finding his only true confidante in Daiyu. When Baoyu is severely beaten for his defiance, a misunderstanding occurs during Daiyu's visit due to a maid's interference.

Amidst falling blossoms and winter snow, Daiyu expresses her melancholy through poetry and flower burials. Deeply moved by her "Elegy for Fallen Flowers," Baoyu confesses his love.

However, the matriarch Lady Jia and Wang Xifeng engineer a cruel bridal swap to secure a politically advantageous marriage with Xue Baochai. Heartbroken, Daiyu burns her poetry and succumbs to illness. On his wedding night, Baoyu discovers the deception and rushes to his beloved, only to find her funeral. After mourning at her coffin, he abandons the corrupt Jia Manor - where "only the stone lions at the gate remain untainted" - becoming the ultimate rebel against feudal tradition.
