Kicking off the new year in true Viennese style, the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra is coming to Shanghai for two nights at the Oriental Art Center. Expect Beethoven, Schubert, Strauss, and more—plus plenty of waltzes and polkas that bring all the festive sparkle. With conductor Jérémie Rhorer at the helm, this is as close to Vienna’s New Year’s Concert as it gets without hopping on a plane.

About the Orchestra

The ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra is one of Vienna’s three major orchestras, alongside the Vienna Philharmonic and Vienna Symphony. It is the only national orchestra under the Austrian federal government, and has received awards including the Golden Tuning Fork, ICMA International Classical Music Award, and the Opus Klassik. Known for combining tradition with adventurous programming, the orchestra is a regular at festivals like Salzburg and the BBC Proms, and has performed at major venues worldwide.

About the Conductor

Jérémie Rhorer – Conductor

One of today’s most acclaimed conductors and composers, Jérémie Rhorer is celebrated for his interpretations of symphonic works, opera, and early music. He is the founder and music director of Le Cercle de l’Harmonie, an ensemble specializing in period instruments. He has conducted leading orchestras including the Vienna State Opera, Orchestre de Paris, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, and appeared at major festivals such as Salzburg and Glyndebourne. He is also the recipient of the BBC Music Magazine Award and the 2017 Bremen Music Festival Award.
