Irish experimental post-rock band Overhead, The Albatross is coming to China for the first time, bringing their huge, cinematic sound to local stages. Expect sweeping strings, big emotional builds, and the kind of live show that feels more like a film score exploding in real time. If you’re into atmospheric, high-drama instrumental rock, this is one worth catching.
Overhead, The Albatross is an Irish experimental post-rock group known for stretching the boundaries of instrumental music. Their sound blends ethereal strings, electronic textures, and synth layers with the raw energy of guitars and drums, creating dense, cinematic landscapes that shift between the familiar and the otherworldly.

Formed in 2009, the band first gained wide recognition with their debut album Learning to Growl. After several years of quiet development, they returned as a four-piece with their second album I Leave You This—a release that was met with strong praise upon arrival. The album is both a nod to their origins and a leap into new sonic territory, weaving together atmospheric instrumentals and unexpected textures that reward deep, attentive listening. Media described it as “a bold statement unafraid of breaking stylistic boundaries” and “a record meant to be experienced rather than simply heard.”

I Leave You This solidified Overhead, The Albatross as one of the leading voices in contemporary instrumental rock. Their live performances are regarded as the fullest expression of their craft: dramatic, precise, and emotionally overwhelming, combining the detail of studio production with the intensity of a band pushing each moment to its limit.

They have earned strong reputations at festivals such as Ireland’s Electric Picnic, the UK’s ArcTangent Festival, and the US’s SXSW. Their long-awaited first China tour is set to bring that same immersive, high-impact experience to local audiences.

New Noise now presents their first-ever shows in China.
