The NDR Elbphilharmonie Chamber Orchestra was formed in 2015 by musicians from the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra. The ensemble is designed as a “large chamber orchestra” with a core of 15 string players, typically led from the first violin position.
Known for bold interpretations and unique programming, the Chamber Orchestra performs both purely string works and collaborations with wind players. It first appeared publicly at the NDR Elbphilharmonie “Into Iceland” festival in 2017, performing contemporary works by Icelandic composers.
The NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra itself, founded in 1945, has toured worldwide and serves as a cultural ambassador for Northern Germany.
This concert offers a chance to hear Brahms’ iconic Hungarian Dances and chamber works in a fresh orchestral arrangement. The performance by a flexible, highly skilled chamber ensemble allows for both intimate and dynamic interpretations of the repertoire.
