Description

Pianist Kirill Gerstein brings a solo recital featuring works by Franz Liszt, Johannes Brahms, and Brett Dean. The program moves from Liszt’s poetic and dramatic piano works to Brahms’ early sonata and a contemporary tribute piece by Brett Dean.

The concert opens with three Petrarch Sonnets by Franz Liszt, followed by Liszt’s “Après une lecture du Dante” (Dante Sonata), excerpted from Années de pèlerinage II. After the intermission, the program continues with Brahms’ Scherzo in E-flat minor, Brett Dean’s Hommage à Brahms: II. Hafenkneipenmusik, and concludes with Brahms’ Piano Sonata No. 3 in F minor.

Kirill Gerstein

Kirill Gerstein is a pianist known for his wide-ranging repertoire, curiosity, and technical ability. He works as a pianist, curator, educator, musical leader, and artistic collaborator, performing with orchestras, conductors, composers, and artists around the world.

Gerstein has received the Gilmore Artist Award and Avery Fisher Career Grant, and currently serves as Professor of Piano at Berlin’s Hanns Eisler Hochschule and faculty member at Kronberg Academy.
