Stars of New York Ballet Gala brings principal dancers, soloists, and dancers from New York City Ballet to Shanghai for two evenings of classical and contemporary ballet. Led by Chun Wai Chan, the company’s first Chinese principal dancer, the program features works by George Balanchine alongside contemporary choreography and iconic pas de deux.

Chun Wai Chan will lead a group of dancers from New York City Ballet in two gala performances at Shanghai Grand Theatre. The program includes representative works from the company’s repertoire, ranging from Balanchine classics to contemporary ballet pieces.

Founded by George Balanchine, New York City Ballet is regarded as one of the world’s major ballet companies. This gala combines classical repertoire with contemporary choreography, presenting works by George Balanchine, William Forsythe, Christopher Wheeldon, Justin Peck, and Tiler Peck.

The evening is divided into two acts and includes selections from Apollo, Jewels, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, and Paquita, alongside contemporary works such as Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming and Silent Woods.

This gala offers a chance to see dancers from New York City Ballet performing a mixed program of classical and contemporary works in Shanghai. Alongside major Balanchine repertoire, the evening also includes newer choreography and a specially presented Butterfly Lovers Pas de Deux choreographed by Chun Wai Chan. For audiences interested in both traditional ballet and contemporary works, the program presents a wide range of styles across two acts.
