Drawing on the myth of the ten suns from The Classic of Mountains and Seas, Miao Jing’s Ten Suns in Chaos looks at how excess light once symbolized danger and how that idea translates into today’s overexposed digital world. The suns here function both as ancient celestial bodies and as flattened, emoji-like symbols drifting through endless streams of data. Working with CG, algorithms, and 3D printing, Miao combines digital processes with deliberately slow, manual labor, hand-polishing, and gilding sculptural forms to echo techniques like rubbings and imprints. The repetitive, physical work becomes a quiet counterpoint to algorithm-driven efficiency, suggesting persistence, craft, and meaning-making within virtual space rather than passive observation.
