Three terms each academic year, from August to June.
The primary teaching language is English, with a Dual Language approach in Mandarin and English in DUCKS (Toddler to Year 2). Children up to age 5 follow the Early Years Foundation Stage, and from Year 1 to Year 9, they follow the National Curriculum of England and Wales, which is enhanced to meet the needs of our international student body. In Year 10 they begin the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education), a rigorous two-year course that requires students to take a broad range of subjects covering maths and sciences, English and foreign languages, and the humanities. In Years 12 and 13, students complete the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).
The vast majority of teaching staff are from the United Kingdom, and all are highly qualified to teach the curricula we offer.
A Dulwich education is a holistic education. That is the enduring vision of Dulwich founder Edward Alleyn who aimed to create a school that emphasised sound learning, strong artistic pursuits and good manners. Today that 400-year-old tradition is carried forward in our thriving Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) programme.
CCAs are an integral part of the educational experience across our schools at Dulwich College Shanghai. Each CCA is run by a teacher or student and students are expected to be highly engaged. Students are empowered to choose – and even propose – their own. Dozens of CCAs have been student-led initiatives.
Each term the CCAs reinvent themselves; new ones are added, old ones are retired. Many persist year after year due to popular demand. There are now more that 300 CCAs on offer across our campuses.
School Bus: While Shanghai is large, getting to our Dulwich College Shanghai is simple. Many families choose our school bus network for its broad scope and flexible routes which provide near door-to-door service throughout much of Shanghai. Our mostly electric bus fleet glides throughout Shanghai collecting our eager pupils, who socialise, read and relax to and from school. Offering buses both before and after our CCA programme allows our families to enjoy the full benefits of life at Dulwich College Shanghai, while also providing flexibility of drop-off times. We currently provide more than 50 bus lines across two campuses, covering the majority of Shanghai and all popular residential areas for foreign nationals.
