This popular tourist destination/landhouse maze is often very crowded and is full of touts hawking knockoffs, paintings, food and drink, and various bric-a-brac and yelling, "sir, come inside!". There's a couple decent bars and restaurants in here but overall it's touristy and could prove frustrating, especially in hotter months. Here's some backstory: originally, a 420-meter-long Taikang Lu (between Ruijin Lu and Sinan Lu) expanded into the neighboring lane ways to be more than double the size, and was initially slated to be Shanghai's "art street" back in 1998 when a former candy factory was renovated to become the International Artists Factory. The four-story building and Lane 210 quickly became the home of marketing and design studios, fashion and interior outlets, and several of the city's established artists, including Huang Yongzheng, Chen Yifei, and Er Dongqiang. For a few years in the 2000s, it was kind of bohemian and a hip place to be, and then it went full-on tourist mode.
