Born in Beijing, now based in Shanghai. Still judges every roast duck against the ones from home.

Skateboarding has shaped far more than skate culture.

What began on the streets of California in the 1970s grew into a global movement that has influenced photography, film, fashion, design, and the way we experience cities. Many of its most iconic images aren't remembered for the tricks themselves, but for the stories they tell about youth, freedom, and creativity.

Opening on July 24, Fotografiska Shanghai presents Skate of the Art: Skateboarding Across Cultures, its major annual exhibition exploring skateboarding through the lens of photography and moving image.

Curated by Nadine Barth, the exhibition brings together more than 20 artists and photographers from five continents. Through a rich collection of photographs and video installations, it traces more than 50 years of skateboarding's evolution, showing how the camera didn't just capture the culture. It helped build it.

The exhibition opens alongside a special edition of Night at the Museum, with Nike SB transforming Fotografiska into a celebration of skateboarding and street culture. Expect DJs, live music, artist talks, installations, drinks, and late-night access to the exhibitions. It's part exhibition opening, part party, bringing together the creative community that has always surrounded skateboarding.

Whether you're into skateboarding or simply interested in photography, contemporary culture, or creative communities, this is one of the summer's most interesting exhibition openings.
