If you spent your late teens listening to indie pop, discovering bands on blogs, and feeling like your entire emotional life could be solved by the right guitar pedal, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are probably already in your DNA.
The New York indie pop favourites are coming back to China this November, and yes, they're bringing the original core lineup with them. The band first appeared in 2007 with a gloriously fuzzy mix of indie pop, twee and shoegaze, basically the sound of being young, slightly miserable, and extremely romantic about it. When they first played Shanghai in 2012, the show sold out, so clearly Shanghai's indie kids knew what was up.
If you like Slowdive, Ride, My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus and Mary Chain or Beach House, there's a very good chance you'll get it. The Pains sit somewhere between dreamy shoegaze and ridiculously catchy indie pop, with huge guitars, sweet melodies and just enough heartbreak to make every minor inconvenience feel like the emotional climax of an indie film.
