KFC has dropped its latest collab: an Oreo Chicken Burger. The limited-time burger comes with a black cocoa bun stamped with Oreo-style branding, a piece of Original Recipe Chicken, and Oreo crumb potato mash inside. There are also Oreo-flavored Original Recipe Chicken cookies and a cocoa-vanilla black-and-white sauce set joining the lineup.
As expected, people have some thoughts. Some are into the sweet-and-salty combo, saying the cocoa bun works well with the fried chicken. Others think the Oreo part is mostly there for the novelty, with the whole thing ending up much saltier than expected.
We tried it ourselves, and the chicken was still doing most of the heavy lifting, juicy, crispy, and very KFC. The bun had a slight cocoa bitterness, but overall this is still more of a savory chicken burger than an Oreo-flavored one.
The Oreo Chicken Burger launched on August 28 and will be available until September 13, while supplies last. The Oreo Chicken combo (two burgers + one piece of Original Recipe Chicken) is priced at 29.9rmb. During the promo period, selected combos come with an Oreo Chicken-flavored sandwich cookie, but the 240,000 limited packs are first come, first served. When we visited, the cookie combo was already sold out, so we grabbed the cookies separately from Hema. They were probably the more adventurous part of the whole thing, a salty-sweet cookie with a slightly peppery kick that might not be for everyone.
Curious? Give it a try, but maybe don't expect an Oreo dessert in burger form. It's still a KFC chicken burger first, with a very black Oreo makeover.
