The world's largest and Asia's first Peppa Pig outdoor theme park is set to open in Shanghai in 2027, specifically on Changxing Island, about an hour and a half's drive from the city center.

(Editor's note: If you don't know Peppa Pig, it likely means you don't have preschool children, so feel free to stop reading now.)

In the meantime, Shanghai already hosts a permanent Peppa Pig exhibit, the Peppa Pig World of Play (PPWOP), located in the LCM shopping mall in outer Pudong.

Reviews on Dianping have been mixed, with some calling the 310 rmb entrance fee a rip-off. Others, including this writer, feel that while it is expensive for what it offers, and rather poorly done, 310 kuai isn't the worst way to entertain your child for an hour on a hot summer day in Shanghai during public holidays.

The space is small, somewhat run-down, and doesn't seem to get much love from its operators. However, if your child loves Peppa Pig and you live nearby or don't mind traveling a bit, it can keep them entertained and bring a few smiles. Just avoid the weekends.

Oh, and there's a Charlie's Burger in the mall too.

[Update July 24] Peppa Pig has taken note! Recognizing that the original price might be a bit high, she is now offering SmartShanghai readers an exclusive discount: 255 RMB for 2 adults and one child. Thank you, Peppa! Oink oink!
