The JZ Festival is back September 22 and 23 for their 14th year, for two days of jazz-and-then-some at something called "Camp 3399". Evidently, the powers-that-be have nixed events in Expo Park, the festival's former location, and they've managed to secure a Puxi-located space for the show. This year's line-up is noticeably scaled back from previous iterations, which have seen musical luminaries Kool & The Gang, Bootsy Collins, Earth, Wind & Fire, Joss Stone, and Roy Ayers assume the headlining duties. They've only released the line-up for four stages so far. A leaner, more manageable jazz festival then. Still plenty of opportunities to throw up jazz hands. Skiddle-dee-dap-doop! Jazz! As for the line-up, the stand-out names this year include The Original Gypsies (featuring members of the Gypsy Kings) and the Branford Marsalis Quartet — both of these acts playing on both days of the festival — Tia Ray, Li Quan & JZ All Stars, Andrea Motis Quintet, The Cubop City Big Band, and more to be confirmed. Two days of jazz, blues, funk, soul, and more. Click on the jump to view the line-up. Click here to order tickets.
